Splat Collages

In honor of Father's Day, I thought I would share some more masculine cards (although for different occasions). I went a little crazy with the grunge/splatter/comic style stamps and collaged them together.

For the first card, I created the collage around the focal point in the upper center. I wanted it too look as if the bike was peeling out.

For the second card, I added color and worked the collage up from the bottom. I also added strips with the sentiment on top. I lined the strips with a black pen to make them stand out against the busy background. RULER = clean and straight lines.

I love the collage effect. I even continued it on the inside of the cards and the envelopes.

Father's Day Race Car Card

Happy almost Father's Day!

I have to say that when it comes to masculine or father-esk stamps-> my collection falls short. VERY SHORT. I only have one Father's Day sentiment and it's tiny! It actually came with a collection of sentiments for tags. So... I have some possible solutions.

Solution #1: Use alphabet sets and mask other sentiments to make your own! I used an alphabet set last year to make a sentiment for this Father's Day card. This year, I used an alphabet set for the "father's" and a "happy birthday" sentiment for the "happy" and "day" which were selectively inked. Alphabet sets are a great way to add customization and masking sentiments is a great way to get more from a stamp.

Solution #2: Look for versatility- when purchasing sets or going through your stash. The race car on this card is from a more boyish set that also has a dump truck, pickup truck, and bug (the car not the insect). The bug could be used for a a hippie themed card or a new driver card. The trucks could be 'hauling' different items depending on the card's theme (items not included). I can see this set being used for guys of all ages and even girls too!

Now, about this card...
Of course, I HAD to make that little race car move! (Leaving it motionless just wasn't an option!) It doesn't matter how young or old... everyone loves interactive cards.

I paper pieced the car and trimmed the spinner down so it wouldn't be seen (just the part attached to the car, the piece behind it was covered in black card stock). Those lines framing the sentiment are actually from a balloon string stamp (but this could be done with a black pen and ruler).

I love the result. Especially considering that I usually wind up struggling with how to work around the track for the spinner. It's just so unlike other card elements! (But in a totally awesome way!)

Make It Monday 120: Ombré Blooms

I was really excited when I saw that this week's Make It Monday was ombré. I've seen it all over but have yet to try it. I wasn't sure how I was going to approach it, but then I remembered this project from Damask Love. The layered blooms were my inspiration for this card's background. I used 3 colors for the blooms and 4 for the leaves (Initially it was 3, but the middle shade of green was too dark, so I added another lighter middle green.) I used a strip for the sentiment and matted it on vellum to soften the transition from the busy background. I also added a die cut bloom and leaf next to the sentiment. The bloom and the strip with vellum are both popped up with foam tape.

Make It Monday 119: Banner Border

I finally had time for Make It Monday. It's pretty last minute, but I'm just happy that I got it done in time! I actually wound up making two cards. I was going to top the banner border with the posie but it was just too busy. So... two cards it is! I HAD to use that posie. I just loved it with all the gold and the black leaves. I stamped it in gold and then accented the edges with gold glitter.

Mojo Monday 296: Everyday Floral

It's the start of a new month and that means it's a contest week at Mojo Monday!

For this card, I went with a more CAS version of the sketch. The little bow is adhered with a glue dot (a small piece of which is also used to keep the ribbon ends in place), and the rose is popped up with some foam tape.
