Avery Elle Ombré Challenge: Watercolor

I'm very excited about the new Avery Elle challenge! Challenge number three is everything Ombre!

I broke out the watercolors for this one (which are basically instant ombre). I mixed some pink and orange over the embossed sentiment and added a few sequins. I used a color card base because the watercolor paper didn't match any of my white card stock. It was lighter than the off-white and creams but darker than the plain white. Although, I think it looks better with the pop of color.

Avery Elle Ombré Challenge: Ikat Birthday

Card two for the new Avery Elle challenge!

This time I stamped different shades of blue to create the ombre. I think I spent more time figuring out how to pattern the ikat pieces than anything else (well worth it now- the first pattern attempt was a bit off).  I added a strip with the sentiment and then added some embellishments. Sequins seem to be my go-to embellishment lately.

Papertrey Blog Hop: High Gloss

For high gloss, I knew I wanted to use a bunch of colors. I liked the idea of pairing a rainbow of colors with black and white. I also liked that pairing with black provided more of an edgy feel while pairing with white seemed brighter. So, I thought it would be fun to make one of each- like Yin and Yang. So here are my inverse cards!

I cut strips of color card stock and adhered them to the card base. To get the glossy look, I put a piece of clear card stock on top of the color strips (adhering to the card base in-between the gaps from the color strips). To hide the adhesive, I covered the gaps with strips of white/black card stock. I cut the color strips at 3/4" and the black/white strips at 1/2"

I was so tempted to add more embellishments. I love the collage/cluster look. However, I didn't want to take away from the boldness of the shiny stripes of color. I wanted them to be the star. Although, I might try this technique again with more subtle colors or even just white to use as a background. I like the contrast of the shine and matte.

Ink: PTI True Black | Versamark | Zing! White embossing powder
Paper: PTI Clear, True Black, Stamper's Select White, Royal Velvet, Pure Poppy, Orange Zest, Limeade Ice, Tropical Teal

Garden Grace Birthday

I paired the delicate flowers with the strong, bold stripes to balance the feel of the card. It reminds me of  ivy growing on brick (squiggly on top of boxy).

Papertrey Ink 7th Anniversary Sketch and Color Challenge Part II

For this card, I used the glitter stripes technique I learned at Stamp-a-faire 2013. The stripes are just Scor-tape covered in glitter. I taped where I wanted then trimmed the edge to get rid of the excess. I poured glitter all over and made sure to really press it down into the tape (with scrap paper between my fingers and the glitter). I stamped some scattered arrows then collaged hearts, enamel dots, and sequins. I was picturing them like bubbles floating up into the air.

Papertrey Ink 7th Anniversary Sketch and Color Challenge Part I

I'm very much guilty of neglecting my blog lately. I've had quite the crazy start to 2014. However, it comes with good news... I've been accepted to graduate school! I'm very excited for the opportunity to continue my education and the new adventure it will bring me.

But now for the long overdue...
I thought Papertrey's 7th Anniversary Celebration would be the perfect thing to get back in the crafting spirt. With tons of challenges and contests, it was just the dose of creativity I needed!

For this card, I stamped the stripes. I used the diagonal line on my cutting mat to make sure they were all parallel. I cut the "30" out of card stock and chipboard then used the chipboard to make a drop shadow. I stamped the sentiment on a strip of white card stock then scored the ends to fold like a banner. I cut the little fishtail on each end of the banner to finish it off.
